Another Stone Harbor post for ya, but last one I promise.
While at the beach, I had to soothe an intense craving for acai There are tons of acai places in New York City, but there is just something about sitting with a bowl of fruity goodness while baking on the beach that no concrete sidewalk seating area can reproduce.
Mom and I went to pick up lunch and I decided to be bold and branch out from the standard acai bowl. When I got to Playa Bowls, the menu was overflowing with options, including chia, acai, pitaya, green, coconut, and banana. My heart did two joyful somersaults. So many to choose from! I opted for the Olas bowl, which was a banana-honey-almond milk puree topped with granola, blueberries, banana slices, shaved coconut, chia seeds, and a drizzle of almond butter. Mmmmm.
Playa bowls is great because all the fruit is super fresh, the puree is blended smoothly (nothing worse than a gross chunk in the middle of a blend), and they have a lot of creative options. You want Nutella? You got it. You're feeling like spinach blended with pineapple and some exotic berry? No problem. This time, my goal was coconut flakes, and they delivered. I know no matter what I'm craving, I can find something to suit my taste, fill me up with an appropriate portion size, and amount to a relatively reasonably price considering all that goes into it.
Also, Playa Bowls has multiple locations, so even if Stone Harbor is a foreign concept to you, no worries! They are in several areas, from the Jersey shore to South Carolina, with even a branch in Puerto Rico. Though I went to a location outside of New York City for this trip, they are right here in New York City too. This is super exciting news for me; I will definitely be hitting up the New York locations.
My mom and I agreed what we love about acai bowls is they taste like a treat and they give you solid energy, but they don't leave you overstuffed afterwards. Nutrition at its finest. After finishing this, I was filled with a desire to eat a bowl every day. If only life could always taste so sweet!
Moral of the story: acai bowls truly are God's gift to fruit dishes. Go get one and take a big bite out of summer!
