Over the past few months, whenever my parent's friends invited us for a boat ride, we brimmed over with excitement. Those boat trips propelled us through the season. It was such a treat. I went twice this summer and it was a very exciting, different way to spend a Saturday.
On one such occasion, we took the boat all the way down to the Cape May Lobster House for lunch. They have a lot of open-air, dockside dining space, mask ordinances in effect, and socially distanced lines, so that helped a lot. It was my first time eating oysters and the one I tried was so good! I love having friends who encourage the expansion of my palate. Our waitress was great, chatting easily with the adults and joking around with us. The Orange Crush I got was not very tasty, so that limited my drinking extensively. The amount of vodka diluted the actual flavor of the Crush. Since the drinks were so strong, it took me the entire lunch to sip just the one down. In contrast, my perfectly plump crab cake was a major hit. It came with a yummy tartar sauce that tasted a little more on the lemony side. The fries were also pretty good, and I tried out dipping them in the tartar sauce. It was a good pairing, but they were just as delicious eaten plain. I had a great time listening to my parents and their friends recount the stories of their first meeting and first dates. So cute!
Here are pictures of some of my boat buddies throughout the summer. I had so much fun dancing with my mom, seeing dolphins up-close for the first time with my dad, and snuggling with Brayden - who is, in fact, a dog and not the stuffed animal he appears to be. His cuteness is unreal. I would like to give a huge thank you to the Larkins for helping us create some of the best memories of the summer, and my parents for keeping me around! With the chilly air that is creeping onto the island, I think our boat days might be closed for the season, but it was so great while it lasted.
Shannon visited this past week! She came down to do the virtual Broad Street Run with my mom, and they both killed it! Running and I disagree with each other, but my dad and I had a lot of fun following their route in his car, standing at key miles along the race to deliver water, and acting as both race officials and cheerleaders. They ran. We danced to 80s music in the street. It was awesome, and we celebrated with homemade cupcakes!
In the middle of the week, Shannon and I had a fabulous dinner date at the Yacht Club. We essentially had the bar to ourselves and had a great time chatting with the bartender, who was very funny. Shannon is great company and we could not stop laughing. She really enjoyed her tomato bisque and chicken caprese sandwich, and I thought the Fall Salad with Salmon was fabulous. I was not sure if the combination of an apple-pear-dried cherry sweet salad and fish would be an odd mix, but it tasted really good, so I am glad I went for it! To make a wonderful night even better, Chef Ed came over to check on us, then brought over two complimentary desserts: a crème brûlée and a chocolate mousse cake. I was over the moon. This was the blog's first comp experience, and it tasted absolutely divine. Un grande merci, Chef Ed!!
Shannon's visit ended with a delicious Italian Night featuring a champagne toast and my mom's Spicy Ragu, which we have not had since Christmas Eve. Wow. That feels like three lifetimes ago. As far as phases of my life go, it kind of was. Well, the dinner tasted wonderful and we stayed up late, talking on the porch, so it was a great farewell party.
In other news, I am very excited to announce that for the past month or so, I have had the opportunity to work with an amazingly talented team in The Human Art Collective's 'My Story, My Voice' show. I have attached an interview with the founder of the Collective, Jamie Lazan, here, so you can read about it in her own words, if you like. The website for Part One goes live the first week of October, and I am so psyched to share what we have created with all of you!
Wishing you well!
